The Wobble Cycling story
Our journey...
Like many people, Wobble Cycling’s founder, Dave Graham, learnt to ride a bike as a child. More unusually, he developed a deep enthusiasm for cycling during his gap year before university. During this year he realised how little he knew about the country of his birth and set off on a 500-mile exploration by cycle through Wales and northern England (despite never having cycled more than a few miles previously). This journey had it’s ups and downs (literally and metaphorically), but was ultimately a hugely rewarding and character building adventure for a teenager. Today, Dave doesn’t cycle as far or fast as he used to, and mainly cycles as a means of transport around town.
Although research shows that regular cycling is 20-times more likely to extend your life than shorten it , cycling is often portrayed and perceived as a dangerous activity. Many potential (and existing) cyclists find the road environment intimidating and are put off from cycling by it. Whilst road conditions could undoubtedly be improved, many potential cyclists simply lack the confidence in their own ability to share the roads with other traffic safely. That was the motivation to establish Wobble Cycling: To help individuals and families gain the confidence and practical skills to get where they want to be, by bike.
We sometimes get asked “Why the name Wobble Cycling?” It’s simple really: we wanted to emphasise that we’re here for everyone, including those who wobble a bit from time to time (which, if we’re honest, is most of us).
